Nokia E65 Woes

Nokia E65I’ve quite a bit to get off my chest about this phone, so be warned :)

It’s billed as a “business” phone, with basically every type of connectivity available (3G, GSM, Wifi, Bluetooth & IR), and a price tag to match (around €400). But for that money you get so many great undocumented features:

  • When you answer a call, the phone reboots.
  • When you receive a text message, the phone reboots.
  • When you receive an email, the phone reboots.
  • When you wander out of wifi coverage, the phone reboots.
  • When you wander into wifi coverage, the phone reboots.
  • When you log on to a sip server, the phone reboots.
  • When you log off a sip server, the phone reboots.
  • When you open a web page, the phone reboots.
  • When you close a web page, the phone reboots.
  • When you leave a web page open, the phone reboots.
  • When you switch from GSM to UMTS, the phone reboots.
  • When you switch from UMTS to GSM, the phone reboots.
  • Almost every day, for no reason at all, at any time, the phone reboots.

… and that’s just the “random reboot” feature. There are plenty more. All in all, the phone reboots about 5 times a day, often resulting in missed calls. I’ve owned the phone for just over 2 months now, and the longest it has ever run without rebooting is for 1 day 3 hours.

And what’s nokia’s response to this? They refuse to acknowledge or fix any of the problems. The phone software is not even available on the nokia software updater.

What really gets me about this is that the phone could be soooooo good, if they just fixed it’s few issues. But as it stands, it’s just a very expensive paperweight that reboots alot.

Update: It’s seems there’s a software update coming for this phone next month. At least according to the incredibly reliable hearsay at the nokia forums.

Well, the software update did come. They’ve replaced the “random reboot” feature with a “random lock-up” feature, and generally slowed down the phone a bit, but other than that, it’s much the same.

    What a shit phone. :(
